Results Corrections PDF Print E-mail

We are gradually sorting through a number of results queries from the weekend. The on-line results will be updated in the near future, but at present please note that there may be changes to all four days.

The most significant error we are aware of is the overall result for W75. Aplogies to Anne Donnell of BOK who should have been declared winner of this class.

During the Relays a control unit failed at Control 161. This control had two SI boxes, and the other kept working. Five people were disqualified for failing to punch at this control. A complaint was received about this disqualification. The complainant stated that they had punched the control in a pack of runners and had heard a beep, but this must have come from a runner at the other unit.

The Organiser's response to this complaint was as follows: "Rule 6.5.2 makes it clear that it is the competitor's responsibility to punch correctly, including using the backup manual punch if a unit fails. We sympathise with competitors affected by this problem, but we believe that competitors should have noticed the problem and punched their map or the other unit. Therefore the disqualifications will stand."

A formal protest was received against this decision. The Controller and Organiser considered that the original decision was correct, and therefore a Jury was convened in accordance with Rule 9.3.4.

The Jury decision was as follows: "Having heard the evidence available and the proximity of the two boxes and the numbers of competitors punching simultaneously, we are satisfied that the competitor(s) would have thought the punch would have been successful. We support the protest and the reinstatement of the Wimborne team and others in the same position."

As a result of this decision, the five teams currently shown as disqualified for failing to punch at Control 161 will be reinstated in the results. This means that Team 6628 (WIMwomen) are now third on W165+.

For all those who won prizes at the JK, congratulations on your achievements in truly disgusting weather. I do still have a number of trophies, medals and mementoes in our garage that I would like to get to their rightful owners, and ideally before the 21st April when we leave the UK to move to Switzerland!

If you came in the top 6 M/W 10 - 18 A/B or the top 3 of all other classes in the combined classification, the top 3 of the all sprint classes, the top 3 in the Trail O or the top 3 in the relays, we have something for you.

We will be going up the BEOC Middle/ Sprint, and I can also arrange to get stuff to other events in the coming weekends. Please This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and I can sort something out.

Many thanks
Alison High, Southdowns Orienteers

The Snow Must Go On PDF Print E-mail

Monday, 24 March 2008

So much for my weatherforecasting abilities. We had even more snow today than the previous two days, but the relays still went ahead with enthusiastic competitors setting off into the snowy wilds of Eridge Old Park.

Norwegian clubs took the main honours, with Kristiansand OK winning the JK Trophy and Wing winning the Women's Trophy.

Full results are now available. RouteGadget will follow soon.

The forecast for the Relays tomorrow looks much better. It should stay dry but cold, with the prospect of clear blue skies and sunshine by tomorrow afternoon just in time for everybody to go home.

Guess What: It Snowed Again PDF Print E-mail

Sunday, 23 March 2008

Day 3 at Ashdown provided more of the same, with heavy snow for the early starters. This cleared by mid-morning but it was still cold and muddy on the mix of woodland and moorland.

Daniel Hubmann produced a storming run to take a clear victory on the men's elite course over the two days, ahead of Graham Gristwood and Baptiste Rollier. Elise Egseth was the overall women's elite winner, ahead of Pippa Whitehouse and Racael Elder.

Full results and RouteGadget are now available.

Saturday, 22 March 2008
The forecast for tomorrow is similar to today, with the prospect of snow showers, strong winds and scattered sunny intervals. At present we expect the event to go ahead as planned. The area is a lot more open than today, with extensive areas of rough moorland. You are strongly advised to wear or carry suitable clothing.
