As a condition of land use, all relay competitors will be required to sign a disclaimer on Day 4 which states "I accept that I take part in all activities in Eridge Park at my own risk and that the Estate does not accept any liability for any loss, damage or accident howsoever caused". Club Captains should ensure that team members are aware of this. For competitors under the age of 18 on the day of the event, Club Captains will be asked to obtain these disclaimers from parents or guardians at or, if they are not attending, in advance of the event and bring them to Relay Registration. You can now download the necessary form for signature. This only applies to under 18s. Everyone else will be asked to sign when they enter the start pen at the relay. |

Final arrangements for the JK weekend are being made, and the Programme should be going to the printer by the end of the week. We can now provide provisional course length details for all four days.
Owing to the very large entry on course 1 for the Sprint race on Day 1, and in accordance with British Orienteering Rules Appendix L (Selection, Seeding and Start Lists), we have planned a separate men’s Elite course, selection for which has been done in conjunction with the British Orienteering Elite Competitions Group. Those who entered for the M21/M20/M18 courses and who are not selected for the Elite course will be moved to the Open course (Course 10). Selection will also be required for the men's elite courses on Days 2 and 3, and those not selected for the Elite course will be moved to the relevant Long course. Day 1: Sprint | Course | Classes | Distance | Climb | Controls | | 1 | M21E, M20E, M18E | 2.7 km | 60 m | 21 | | 2 | W21, W20, W18 | 2.4 km | 55 m | 18 | | 3 | M35, M40, M45 | 2.5 km | 55 m | 19 | | 4 | M50, M16, M14 | 2.4 km | 50 m | 18 | | 5 | M55, W35, W16, W14 | 2.2 km | 50 m | 17 | | 6 | M60, W40, W45 | 2.0 km | 50 m | 16 | | 7 | M65, M70, W50, W55, W60 | 1.6 km | 40 m | 15 | | 8 | M75, M80, M12, W65, W70, W75, W80, W12 | 1.3 km | 30 m | 12 | | 9 | M10, W10 | 1.2 km | 10 m | 13 | | 10 | Open | 2.6 km | 60 m | 18 | |

The level of entries already received for the male elite courses is such that for the first time in a number of years selection will need to be applied, and some entries will be moved to the corresponding L courses. Entries made after the final closing date (7th March) will not be included in this selection process and will automatically be placed on the relevant L course. If you want a chance to run M21E, M20E or M18E please make sure you have entered by the 7th March.
The M21E field is already particularly strong this year. Oli Johnson will be defending his 2007 title against nearly all the top British runners, including Jon Duncan, Graham Gristwood, Scott Fraser, Murray Strain, Matt Speake, Duncan Archer, Nick Barrable and Matt Crane. Oystein Kvaal Osterbo (NOR) is back to defend his sprint race title from last year, plus we have big groups from Norwegian, Finnish and French clubs including Daniel Hubman, Benno Schuler and Baptiste Rollier (SUI), Holger Hott (NOR) and Damien Renard (FRA). |

For those who can't make it to the Sprint Race on the Friday, or who want something a little closer to the JK Village and accommodation, there wil be a training event at Hindleap Warren (old version of map in Routegadget here). This is a very runnable area on the edge of Ashdown Forest and the terrain is similar to that for Day 3. Parking and registration and will be at Michael Hall School in Forest Row. The start will be open from 12.00 to 16.00. Further details will be included in the event programme. |

Following the recent publicity in Focus and CompassSport all rooms at the JK Village have now been reserved. We still have dormitories, floor space and camping available. Don't miss out on this chance to stay somewhere where Doctor Who has been filmed ! |

We are expecting this to be the best attended Sprint race in Britain ever, building on the successes of the JK Sprint in the last two years, and we have chosen world-class terrain to make it all worthwhile. The map is the same as that used for the World Cup in 2005 and the courses promise to be as challenging as they come! On the left you can see Vroni Konig of Switzerland and Toni O'Donovan of Ireland starting in the World Cup Sprint Qualifier in 2005. 1) Medals: JK Medals will be awarded to the first three in every age class from M/W10 to M/W80 (i.e. the awards will not be to class groupings contrary to what the printed brochure states). 2) Provisional class combinations are:-
1 M21 M20 M18 2 W21 W20 W18 3 M35 M40 M45 4 M50 M16 M14 5 M55 W35 W16 W14 6 M60 W40 W45 7 M65 M70 W50 W55 W60 8 M75 M80 M12 W65 W70 W75 W80 W12 9 M10 W10
3) All starts will be afternoon starts in order to allow competitors to travel. The last starts are provisionally set for 4 pm (sunset is 6.13 pm)

JK2008 will include Elite Trail O courses with both Open and Paralympic classes as well as Novice Trail-O courses that are suitable for beginners and juniors on Days 2 and 3. Day 2 Trail O will be at Newlands Corner, Guildford and Day 3 Trail O will be at Hindleap Warren, Forest Row. Map scale will be 1:4,000 on both days. Both venues are close enough to allow JK competitors to take part either before or after their runs We also hope to stage a Trail O demonstration course at the Sprint Race available to all to test their technical orienteering skills.
Trail O competitors who intend to visit or stay at the JK Village and Accommodation should note the following. Only the double doors to the NAAFI and Canteen are over 70 cms wide and there are two steps up to the NAAFI. Access to the accommodation rooms, washing facilities and toilets is not suitable for any wheelchair user who can not stand. Anyone in that situation should check the chain hotels. |
