We are fortunate to have negotiated the exclusive use of Crowborough Army Camp, East Sussex for JK 2008.  Crowborough is a small town close to Ashdown Forest – an area of outstanding natural beauty (forest home of Winnie the Pooh and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle). The town includes a supermarket (Morrisons), many smaller shops, a leisure centre with swimming pool, restaurants, take-aways etc. Crowborough Army Camp is on the southern edge of Crowborough on the A26 roughly midway between Royal Tunbridge Wells and Uckfield.  The nearest railway station is Jarvis Brook, some 2 – 3 miles east of the event centre.  Gatwick Airport is less than an hour away.

Crowborough Army Camp is a self-contained facility set in lovely woodland grounds and close to all events.  Various types of accommodation will be available.  Indoor accommodation comprises bedded rooms (with sink), beds in single sex dormitories and floor space.  All indoor accommodation is set out in blocks which include toilets, showers and drying rooms.  Additionally there will be a camping/caravan field available with access to Portaloos and shower blocks.

The accommodation is as follows:

  • Family rooms - twin beds with bedding except sheets and pillow cases but these can be hired at a very minimal cost.   These rooms have sufficient floor space for two children, but they will need a sleeping mat and bag.
  • Twin rooms or three bedded rooms bedding as above with linen available for hire.
  • Beds in single sex dormitory rooms (16 beds per dormitory).  Clubs or squads are welcome to book an entire dormitory, in which case there are no restrictions on gender.  (Linen as above)
  • Floor space for the hardy.
  • Tent pitches for the very hardy for small and large tents, again with access to all facilities (no hook-ups).  We have booked sunshine for March!
  • Campervan/Caravan pitches, again with access to all facilities but with no hook-ups

Breakfast, packed lunches and three course evening meals will be provided, at very reasonable prices, by the on-site Army catering contractors.  We have requested ‘orienteering type food’, both meat and veggie versions.  Food vouchers will be issued as meals will need to be booked in advance, but final decisions on this do not have to be made until quite near the event.

The camp will also provide facilities for people to make hot drinks and eat picnics, cold breakfasts etc.  You will need to bring your crockery and cutlery if you want to use this.

An excellent bar and officer’s mess will provide the focus for social events (and the odd tipple or hot drink) or just a chat in the bar!  The event centre will also be an ideal venue to view results, use route gadget and access enquiries after the event.

Exciting social events will be organised, yet to be finalised, but will probably include the British Orienteering AGM, quiz night, disco and/or barn dance, Easter egg hunt.

An event centre pack will be issued to all those staying at the event centre and we are hoping to provide vouchers for reduced entry into many local facilities and information about tourist attractions in the area.

Please complete a Booking Form if you are interested in staying at the JK Village.
