Event FormatFriday 21st March 2008Day 1 - Sprint Race – University of Surrey , GuildfordThe Sprint Race area is a complex university campus with undulating slopes throughout. The area was used for the 2005 World Cup Sprint Qualification Races and is generally regarded as one of the most technical Sprint terrains in the country.Saturday 22nd March 2008Day 2 Individual Race (Part 1) – Leith HillLeith Hill is an area of mixed, mainly fast, woodland with sections of very high technical complexity. The undulating slopes include the highest point in Surrey (at just over 1000 feet, if you include the summit tower). A part of the area was used for the 2005 World Cup Middle Races.Sunday 23rd March 2008Day 3 Individual Race (Part 2) – Ashdown ForestAshdown Forest combines areas of runnable woodland, rough heath and open land. It presents challenging terrain with multiple features, large valleys and extensive views. Parts of the area have previously been used for the British Orienteering Championships and the Harvester Trophy. One quarter of the area is new to orienteering.Monday 24th March 2008Day 4 - JK Relays – Eridge Old ParkEridge Old Park is a mixture of open parkland and runnable woodland, with many ancient trees, on undulating slopes.THE JK VILLAGEWe have been able to secure the Army Training Camp at Crowborough for exclusive use for the JK weekend. The facility includes over 600 bed spaces in various forms (2/3 bedded rooms, 4 person family rooms, 16 bed dormitories, floor space and 80 plus acres of camping) at various prices – see the accommodation booking form for prices etc. Meals can be supplied and there will be a full social programme.TRAVELThe nearest airports are at Gatwick and Heathrow. Gatwick Airport is 40 minutes from the JK Village and no more than 40 minutes to all of the competition areas (M25 permitting). Convenient railway stations are at Guildford (Day 1), Dorking (Day 2) and Jarvis Brook (JK Village at Crowborough Camp). If there is sufficient demand, we will arrange transport from the JK Village to both of the individual races and the relay.ACCOMMODATION There will be a large amount of accommodation at the JK Village. DOGSDogs are NOT allowed at the Event Centre or on the Relay area (even in cars!). Dogs are allowed at Day 1 without restrictions, at Day 2 but only on leads and Day 3 in the Car Park only and on leads.
STRING COURSESThere will be free string course for budding orienteers at the Friday, Saturday and Sunday events, with prizes for all. They will use all available technology, including electronic punching.TRAIL-OThere will be Elite Trail O courses with both Open and Paralympic classes as well as Novice Trail-O courses that are suitable for beginners and juniors on Days 2 and 3. Day 2 Trail O will be at Newlands Corner, Guildford and Day 3 Trail O will be at Hindleap Warren, Forest Row. Map scale will be 1:4,000 on both days. Both venues are close enough to allow JK competitors to take part either before or after their runs We also hope to stage a Trail O demonstration course at the Sprint Race available to all to test their technical orienteering skills.
Trail O competitors who intend to visit or stay at the JK Village and Accommodation should note the following.
COLOUR CODED COURSESWhite, Yellow, Orange and Red colour coded courses will be available on Days 2 and 3. These courses are open to all including non-British Orienteering members. Entry is on the day onlyELECTRONIC PUNCHINGAll courses on all days will use the SportIdent electronic punching system. SportIdent cards will be available for hire at £1.00 per day. The charge for lost cards will be £20.00 eachMAPSThe map scale will be 1:3,000 or 1:4,000 for the Sprint Race on Day 1. 1:10,000 or 1:15,000 scale maps will be used as normal for Days 2 and 3 (the elite Middle Race on Day 2 will be 1:10,000). All relay maps will be at 1:10,000. The contour interval will be 2.5 metres on Day 1 and 5 metres on all other days.EMBARGOED AREASCompetitors must not enter the listed areas prior to the event day. For Day 3 this includes the grounds of Ashdown Forest Visitor Centre at Forest Row and the grounds of Ashdown Park Hotel in Forest Row. (The Llama Park in Forest Row is not in the competition area for Day 3.)ELITE COMPETITIONSElite competitors (M/W18-20 and M/W21) will have a Sprint race on Day 1, a Middle race on Day 2 and a Long race on Day 3. Entries for the Elite classes may be restricted; those that are not ranked for UK Cup or Future Champions Cup should expect to be required to provide evidence of their eligibility to compete in the Elite races. The Middle race (which is the same for 18-20E and 21E) and the 21E Long race are both World Ranking Events, and all three individual races are part of the UK Cup and FCC series of events.OTHER COMPETITIONSSprint races will be available at University of Surrey for the following categories:
The M/W10 courses will be at Yellow standard (TD 2). Individual classes will be allocated to one of 9 separate courses (provisional), each planned to have a winning time of 12 to 15 minutes. The Individual races on Days 2 and 3 will have the following classes:
Trophies in all classes (including Elite) will be awarded on the cumulative results of Days 2 and 3 RELAYSThe JK Relays will be held at Eridge Old Park. This includes the JK Trophy (for teams of 4) and the Women’s Trophy (for teams of 3), which are both UK Relay League Races.ENTRIESPlease, please, please enter JK 2008 via the internet if possible. The payment system is secure and easy to use. Alternatively, a postal entry form is available by sending a stamped addressed envelope to the Entries Secretary. If you require confirmation of a postal entry, please provide an e-mail address, or a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your entry. Postal entry forms will also be available to download from the website. Relay entries can be made online by clubs from Mid-January 2008 or on the special entry form, which will be sent to the secretaries of all UK clubs, and will also be available on the website. CANCELLATION OF OR CHANGES IN ENTRIESIndividuals and teams may cancel, amend or transfer entries already made via the internet at any time until the 7th March. Cancellations will be subject to an administration charge. Individuals and teams may cancel, amend or transfer entries already made by any method, by e-mail or post to the Entries Secretary, to be received by 18th March. Refunds will be paid on such cancellations, subject to a charge of £2 per competitor per day for administration. Relay class changes after 7th March can made subject to new class map availability with an admin charge of £2 per competitor. Should the event, or part of the event, be cancelled, the organisers reserve the right to retain all or part of entry fees to cover committed costs.
PARKING PERMITSParking at days 2, 3 and 4 will be by parking permit, which should be ordered and paid for with your entry. They will also be on sale at the Sprint event on Friday 21st March. Car/camper - £6.00 Minibus - £12 Coach - £25 Groups planning to bring a coach will need to check the availability of parking space with the co-ordinator. Each day, vehicles not displaying a valid parking permit will be charged at the following rates: Car/camper - £3 Minibus - £6 Coach - £13.PROGRAMME AND RESULTSOne programme will be sent to the named contact on each entry form (postal and internet), with extra copies for entries for more than four competitors. Extra copies will be available for sale at enquiries at each competition – price £2. Results will be available via the website. Printed copies may be ordered for £3 each. |
